This fonds consists of approximately 62.56 meters of textual material, 18 photographs, 24 drawings, 46 posters, 34 maps, 4 audio reels, 14 audio cassettes, 5 sound CDs, three 16 mm film reels and approximately 395 videocassettes in Betamax and Umatic format.

The textual material created and/or managed by the Directorate of the Department of Renewable Resources between 1975-1993, include correspondence of the Minister, Deputy Minister and Assistant Deputy. In addition, there are divisional reports, minutes of meetings, briefing notes, decision papers, Land Use Planning records, Management Steering Committee records, copies of submissions to environmental review boards and copies of agreements between the Federal Government and the GNWT. There is also a copy of an operational review of the department that was conducted between 1990-1991, a subsequent report and appendices of a departmental organizational review, and files related to enforcement issues and development of hunting regulations in the Liard/Mackenzie Corridor. Additionally, there are three files from the department library that relate to forestry and game officers from 1950-1969.

The records from the Finance and Administration Division consist of files relating to Departmental Organization and Priorities. These records are dated between 1984-1986.

The records from the Policy and Planning Division relates to Departmental reviews and responses and an overall Government of the Northwest Territories Functional Inventory.

The fonds also contains records relating to the transfer (devolution) forestry and fire management from the federal government, including correspondence, work plans, asset inventories, organizational charts, job descriptions, and meeting minutes.

The fonds also includes records relating to forest management, including the 1987 Forest Resources Transfer Agreement, timber licensing and inspection, forest utilization, timber export, integrated resource management (Liard/Nahanni Valley), and forest fire response, including protection of communities.

The fonds also includes general records relating to trapping, seal hunting and marketing, the Furbearer Management Program, compensation and income support programs, and the Natural Resources Conservation Trust Fund (NRCTF).

The textual material from the Wildlife Services Division consists of several oversize ledgers documenting Hunting and Trapping Reports and Fur Export Tax Reports from across the Northwest Territories. There are also general correspondence files, minutes of meetings, memorandums, strategic planning, and policies relating to the division's activities, programs and workshops delivered and files relating to the transfer of responsibilities for forestry and fire management from the federal government to the Government of the Northwest Territories. In addition there are records dealing with enforcement, devolution of land and water, and outfitting, individual trapping records, harvest reports, outfitter harvest statistics, reports on the monitoring of different wildlife species, Convention of International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES) files, human resources files, Game Office files, caribou and moose surveys, fisheries data, fur dealers records, Trappers Association records, export permits, trappers assistance records, organized hunts, buffalo/caribou hunter data, hunter kill statistics, anthrax control and emergency response planning, humane trapping, community freezers and bison ranching. There are also annual reports for the division, 1990-1992.

There are also files that were created by the Forest and Wildlife office in Rae and Fort Smith. This material contains Robert Douglas' monthly patrol reports and correspondence from between 1951-1955. The reports include summaries of the warden's duties, weather reports, wildlife observations, hunting, trapping and fishing activities, lists of game taken and licenses issued, as well as the monitoring of animal species, particularly caribou. The remaining material from Fort Smith dates between 1987-1996 and contains files relating to Administration, Personnel, Policy and Directives, Finance and Budget, Training, Lands and Properties, Associations, Committees and Boards, Native Organizations, Wildlife and Habitat Management, Research and Field Studies, Resource Development, Fisheries and Forestry Legislation and Enforcement, Licenses and Permits, Conservation Education and Pollution Control. In addition, there are approximately 35 maps from this division that concern animal trapping in the Northwest Territories.

The textual material from the Pollution Control Division dates between 1975 - 1991. The records consist of air quality reports, water quality reports, and information about solid waste management, hazardous waste management, waste oil, chemical disposal, anti-litter campaign, and minutes from the Pollution Control Division meetings and Yellowknife Anti-Litter Committee meetings. The records also include a copy of the "Truth North" #2 comic book.

The material generated or managed by the Field Services Division between 1961-1986, consists of correspondence, minutes from Regional Superintendents and Regional Hunters and Trappers Associations meetings, field project reports, reports from regional and community wildlife officers, fur records, forms and reference material kept by the division. The records relate to a variety of activities such as: hunting, trapping, enforcement of regulations, animal studies, fisheries, training and organizational structure. Reports from the five administrative regions of the Government of the Northwest Territories (Fort Smith, Inuvik, Keewatin, Baffin and the Kitikmeot, which was once part of the Fort Smith region) have been kept in an effort to document regional activities and responses.

The records from the Environmental Planning and Assessment Division date from 1971 to 1991 and consist of land use planning evaluations, correspondence, policies, minutes of meetings, social impact studies and records relating to water management and planning, Inter-jurisdictional Water Negotiations and Environmental Impact-Assessment of Oil/Gas and Mineral Exploration.

The three 16 mm film reels contain two films produced by the Department of Renewable Resources in conjunction with the Department of Culture and Communication. The first film is entitled "Koukdjuak Crossing: Caribou Tagging on Baffin Island." The film is available in English and Inuktitut. The second film, "Two Have Forever: Hunting the Bathurst Caribou Herd" was produced in 1986; it illustrates the importance of the Bathurst herd to the Inuit, Dene and non-natives. This film is available in English and Innuiaqtun. The accession containing approximately 395 videocassettes was produced by or for the Conservation Education and Resource Development Division of the Department of Renewable Resources. The videocassettes contain informational programming about wildlife management, trapping, fur handling, oil spill containment, hunting safety, firearm safety, information about Renewable Resources officers and projects, land use planning and wildlife conservation.

Part of the fonds is comprised of a series of posters produced the department for the annual National Wildlife Week Poster Contest; another series warns of the dangers of bears; a third series relates to Wildlife Regulations in relation to hunting and the export of animals/pelts/meat outside the Northwest Territories. The sound recordings consist of 3 audio reels and 6 DAT audiocassettes that contain recordings from a conference entitled "Fish, Fur and Game for the Future" held in February 1981. The remaining sound recordings, which consist of 14 audiocassettes and 1 audio reel, contain programs and radio ads that were produced by the department between 1985-1990. These programs and ads were aimed at teaching northerners about caring for the environment, educating them about the role of the department and raising awareness about new wildlife regulations. The audio reel contains the proceedings from a Fur Symposium held in Fort Resolution from 1986.

The remaining material within the fonds is comprised of published studies, reports, and brochures from the Department of Renewable Resources; the majority of material relates to its Wildlife Service subdivision between 1976 and approximately 1997. There are also reports and indices of scientific research licences issued 1974-1982. There are also approximately 5 cm of reports created by the Science Advisory Board of the Northwest Territories. The reports date from 1979-1982 and include the objectives of the Board as well as multiple topics including population studies, imported foods to the N.W.T., wind energy, aquatic resources, arctic marine mammals, dietary habits of native populations and animal management.

This fonds consists of records from the Directorate, Policy, Legislation and Communication division, Wildlife and Fisheries division, Parks and Tourism division, Investment, Economic Analysis division, Industrial Initiatives division, Environmental Protection division, Minerals, Oil and Gas division, Fort Smith region, the Energy, Mines and Resources Secretariat and the Energy Secretariat of the Department of Resources, Wildlife and Economic Development dating from 1926-2007.

The records from the Policy, Legislation and Communication division primarily consist of project report files related to a variety of departmental programs and initiatives including resource management, the Protected Areas Strategy, hunter and harvester assistance programs, Land Use Planning committees; legislative initiatives; strategic planning, oil and resource development strategies; parks and tourism; departmental operational review and organizational reviews; policy and legislation development committees, senior management committees and working groups. There are also records relating to the development of Forest Fire Management and Species at Risk legislation, amendments to the Wildlife Act, regulatory changes to the Forest Management Act and Territorial Parks Act, and protocols and regulations in regards to land claims agreements with aboriginal groups as well as feedback from the public, as well as records related to the development of the Business Development and Investment Corporation Act. Also included in the records are three signed agreements, the Environmental Agreement with DeBeers Canada regarding the Snap Lake Diamond Project, the Socio-Economic Agreement with DeBeers Canada regarding support of the secondary diamond industry in the NWT, as well as a Cooperation Agreement with the federal Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development respecting the Giant Mine Remediation Project. The records also document RWED's participation in the Sahtu Renewable Resources Board and preliminary screening of water and land use applications. The records also include a draft internal Use of Internet Policy, copy of the Thelon Game Sanctuary Management Plan, and review of historical records relating to reindeer. The records also document the Department's involvement in the processes of devolution of natural resources from the federal government and division between the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

Records from the Forest Management division include meeting and workshop records, regional year-end reports, records relating to the negotiation of forest management agreements, fire effects camps messaging and reports, public education program planning, excerpts from the operations manual, and informational guides and pamphlets.

Records relating to Wildlife Management include those on the subjects of disease, endangered species, land use, predator control, trapping, hunting, fur production and harvesting data, fur marketing, support for harvesters, hunting and trapping associations, outfitting, environmental protection and conservation, environmental assessment and monitoring, land claims, trapper taxation, trapping standards, animal sightings, game management reports, registered trapping areas, pipelines, sport fishing and lake stocking, fisheries management, conservation education, business opportunities, national parks, territorial parks, preserves, sanctuaries and refuges. Records also include federal committees and studies, manuals, permits, licenses, newsletters, annual reports, strategic plans, and administrative records (ie. Staffing - GNWT policies), mandate documents, and staff chronos relating to the operation of the Division. The wildlife management records include studies or records relating to falcons, gyrfalcons, geese, duck, swans, bears, bison, beaver, sheep, caribou, fox, reindeer, wolf, muskoxen, muskrat, marten, mink, lynx, wolverine, moose, hare, waterfowl and arachnids (spiders). Policies and programs covered by these records include the Guiding and Outfitting Policy, Fire Management Policy, Firearm Safety Instructor Course Program, Bathurst Management Planning Committee, Trapper Treeline Program, Trapper Training, Harvesters Assistance, Trapper Compensation, Community Freezer Program, Fur Program, trap exchange, fur marketing, Biodiversity Working Group, interaction with COSEWIC, and the Fish and Wildlife Service Policy. Each region of the Northwest Territories is represented. The records also include Wildlife Act revisions, consultation records (audio cassettes) for the new Wildlife and Species at Risk Acts, Senior Management committee material and briefing notes for 1999-2004.

The textual records and slides relating to the Parks and Tourism division date 1979-2006 and include Economic Development Agreement (EDA) files (contribution files), interpretive centre and display project files, signage and design files, map planning and development, campground reports and statistics, public image documents, records relating to the development of the Explorers' Guide, tourism promotion planning, and tourism studies. They also include capital project records relating to historic sites and properties, territorial parks operations and development, events such as Expo '86, and structural objectives of the Division. There are also minutes and planning documents from internal Tourism meetings, Tourism Marketing Advisory Committee, the Protected Areas Strategy, NWT Arctic Tourism and a file related to the NWT Tourism Industry Association Review that was prepared by a consultant for the department. There are also ministerial, deputy minister and assistant deputy minister chronos.

The files from the Investment and Economic Analysis division date from 1990-2006 and include records on the marketing and promotion of northern arts in crafts in North America, Japan and Europe, the role of the department in the development of the Master of the Arctic exhibit, establishment of the Business Development and Investment Corporation, arts and culture strategy, Northern innovation, the diamond industry, and manufacturing strategy. The majority of the files consist of strategic planning materials concerning public relations for the department, business planning files related to arts and crafts development in the communities, briefing notes, agreements, reports, Decision papers, and reference material. There is also Deputy Minister correspondence concerning the relationship between Economic Development and Tourism, Business Credit Corporation and NWT Development Corporation, as well as briefing notes, files from senior management meetings and Premier Panel Meeting, files regarding the Arts and Crafts Committee and internal newsletters. There are also files generated by intergovernmental committees and commissions, including the Business Incentive Policy review and the Banker's Commission.

The records from the Directorate primarily consist of Ministerial and Deputy Minister chronos and briefing books. There are also departmental planning files including records from a Departmental Review Committee related to consolidation of the following departments: Economic Development and Tourism, Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources and Renewable Resources, as well as minutes and materials from departmental Senior Management meetings and workshops. There is also a file for 2004 meetings of the Legislation Committee to review alterations to legislation and regulation for the Department. In addition, there are files related a variety of issues from several divisions within the department, including records related to wildlife management, forest and fire management, including annual forest fire operations reports, the development and privatization of NWT parks, marketing strategy for tourism in the NWT, the operation of the NWT Business Credit Corporation and NWT Development Corporation, records regarding the Economic Development Agreement (EDA), records from the Deputy Minister's Committee on the Devolution of Lands and Resources, as well as records relating to RWED's co-lead role in the development of a National Diamond Strategy. Records also include deputy minister's files on the Arctic Energy Alliance, from when the deputy minister sat on the Board of Directors.

The records from the Minerals, Oil and Gas division relate to the "Increasing the Number of Northern Workers in the NWT Mineral Industry - Impacts and Strategies" study, the “NWT Mining Statistics Survey Financial & Statistical Results Details by Individual Mines 1990-1992” survey, mineral royalty and mining taxation options, a draft Mining Income Tax Act, website development for the Coronation Gulf Mineral Development Area and the Mackenzie Valley Mineral Development Area, and mineral exploration projects and also include records from the predecessor department of Energy, Mines and Natural Resources.

This fonds also consists textual material comprised of publications from the Department of Resources, Wildlife and Economic Development. The reports date from 1997-2006 and relate to animals and flora, specifically caribou, wood bison, muskox, dolphins and black spruce trees. Topics cover wildlife management, migration, calving grounds, population distribution, wildfires and seasonal movements and migration.

This fonds also consists of files related to the Trade and Investment Division and Economic Planning Division. This material consists of three files relating to mining industry winter road access, one file with varied material regarding NWT investment and trading strategies, including a brochure and report. There is one file on the Aurora Fund, a venture capital fund related to the federal Immigration Investor Program. Finally, there is one file containing a consultant's report on household expenditure cost differentials between the NWT and southern communities.

The fonds also includes files from the Industrial Initiatives division. This material relates primarily to diamond mining and gas pipeline projects and includes committee material, briefing notes, speaking notes, reports, and grants and contributions policies and procedures.

The fonds also includes records from the Fort Smith Region, including job descriptions, organizational charts, meeting materials, correspondence, site assessment forms, and records of the 1997 Fort Providence Prescribed Burn project.

The fonds also include records from the Inuvik Region relating to community economic development.

This fonds also consists of files related to the Energy, Mines and Resources Secretariat. This material includes correspondence regarding energy alternatives as well as natural gas power feasibility for Inuvik and Hay River, mineral development, strategy and northern hiring practices, Development Impact Zones (DIZ's) and major project preparedness for full-scale hydrocarbon development of the Northwest Territories.

This fonds also consists of files related to the Energy Secretariat, tasked with drafting an energy strategy for the NWT. Materials include workshops, meeting minutes, public consultations, stakeholder responses, correspondence and a discussion paper, "Towards an Energy Strategy for the NWT."

This fonds also consists of files related to the Environmental Protection Division. This material includes correspondence, meeting minutes, society formation and workshop proceedings of the Arctic Energy Alliance, created in concert with four other Government of the Northwest Territories organizations and the NWT Association of Municipalities.

This fonds consists of approximately 8 meters of textual material, approximately 73,344 black and white and colour photographs in print, negative and slide formats including many duplicates, 224 audiocassettes, 165 audio reels, 5 DAT audiocassettes, 25 16-mm films, 15 videocassettes in Beta, VHS and Helical Scan videotape formats and 4 architectural drawings. The Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre and the Northwest Territories Archives generated the bulk of the textual material. The material consists of transcripts of interviews conducted by the Northwest Territories Archives with Father Louis Menez, Violet Beaulieu and Sven Johansson. Six of the audio reels contain stories that were recorded at the Miner's Mess restaurant as part of the Cultural Festival component of the 1990 Arctic Winter Games held in Yellowknife and feature storytelling by Claire Barnabe, Barb Bromley, Rene Fumoleau, Jim Green, Abe Okpik, Erik Watt, Lorne Schollar, D'Arcy Arden, George Blondin, Neil Colin, Mary Forrest, Pete Fraser, Joe Tobie and Jim Bourque. Other cassettes feature interviews with Ben Sutherland and Laura Loutitt. In addition, there are audiocassettes and English translations of an interview conducted by the Archaeology Section with Slavey Elder George Boots and video cassettes of "Drum Lake-Archaeology", "The Last Mooseskin Boat", and "Where Time Began". There are also records from the Northwest Territories Historical Advisory Board, the Northwest Territories Heritage Council and Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre, including the NWT Arts Council. Included are operational and administrative files from the Archaeological and Historic Sites program, Education and Extension program, Territorial Plaque program, Exhibits program, Museum grants and Northwest Territories Archives. Records from the Culture and Heritage Division (Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre) consist of various administrative records concerning Land Use applications, minutes of various Culture and Heritage Division meetings, program reports, support for community heritage related efforts, promotional pamphlets, archaeology permit requests, museum policy development, and special Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre projects such as Trapline - Lifeline.

Also included are files on various conferences such as the Canadian Conference on Historical Resources, the Northern Museums Conference, and Committees such as the Interdepartmental Committee on Archaeology, the Canada-Northwest Territories Consultative Committee on Parks and the Museum Advisory Committee.

A small portion of the textual records were created by the Language Bureau including a Briefing Note for the Minister about the activities of the Language Bureau, a proposal from an consultant and input from the Language Bureau about an operational review of the division, an evaluation of the Language Bureau and comments on the NWT Literacy Strategy by the staff of the Language Bureau. The remainder of the files include records from the Athapaskan Language Steering Committee, the Dene Languages Committee and internal newsletters that were produced by the Language Bureau called Dene Yati, The Booth, Language Bureau Bulletin and one newsletter called Tusagatsait.

There are approximately 55,724 black and white and colour photographs in print, negative and slide formats that were generated or acquired by the Television and Radio Services Division, Department of Culture and Communications and by the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. The collection of photographs from Television and Radio Services document the Government of the Northwest Territories involvement in housing, education and training, arts and crafts, tourism, transportation and industry. There are also images documenting native land use, community activities, special events such as Expo '86 and Arctic Winter Games, public buildings and housing, Commissioners of the Northwest Territories, NWT Council, the Legislative Assembly and Members of the Legislative Assembly. The photographs from the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre include photographs taken at Pine Point, Fort Resolution and Pangnirtung, as well as photographs created by archaeological and historic site surveys, and photographs of the Aviation Gallery at the Heritage Centre. The 132 audiocassettes, 155 sound reels and 4 DAT audio cassettes consist of recordings that were produced and collected by the Radio and Television Services Division of the Department of Culture and Communications between 1970-1986 and by the Northwest Territories Archives and Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. The recordings include soundtracks for films, interviews, speeches, special effect sounds, Inuit throat singing and government programs such as the series "Behind Closed Doors-A Series on Spousal Assault in the Northwest Territories" and "So You Want to Start Your Own Business." The 25 16-mm films include copies of "You Can't Grow Potatoes Up There"; "Koukdjuak Crossing: Caribou Tagging on Baffin Island"; "Bathurst Inlet Caribou" (may also be titled: To Have Forever: Hunting the Bathurst Caribou Herd); "Nikko Island", "Wood Bison"; "Kellett's Storehouse"; "Yellowknife"; "Caribou"; "Heritage Centre Spots"; "Kissiutiyeet"; "Gordon Lake"; "Decisions"; "Future"; and "Anik Info Spots" (air prints). The Beta videocassettes contain videos produced by the Language Bureau of the Department of Culture and Communications. The films are entitled "MLA," "Home Maintenance-Northwest Territories Housing Corporation," "Home Maintenance-Canadian Mortgage Housing Corporation" and "How the Fur Trade Works" which is in South Slavey. The two helical scan videos consist of a Keewatin Economic Development Conference and the film "Hire North." Another Betamax cassette is of "Rivers of Faith" documenting Pope John Paul II's visit to Fort Simpson in 1987. The architectural drawings were generated by a project through the Northwest Territories Archives in which the old Catholic Mission building in Fort Resolution was documented.

Also contained in this fonds are materials dating from 1986-1991 including 3 Baffin Bulletin newsletters, 2 spousal assault newsletters, a report on spousal abuse, a report on the traditional knowledge working group, a directory guide of Northern cultural and arts performers from approximately 1990, and various press releases.

This fonds consists of approximately 29.81 meters of textual material, 17 microfiches of textual material, 18 maps, and seven videos. The records were generated by the Policy and Planning Division, Community Works and Capital Planning Division, Lands Division, Sport and Recreation Division, Community Planning and Lands Division, Community Governance, the Directorate, Public Safety and the Corporate Services Division of the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs. The files from the Policy and Planning Division relate to Devolution, Privatization, Resource Community Policy, Resource Development Policy, Local Government Priorities, Assistant Deputy Minister (ADMS) Coordinating Committee, Ministers Speeches, as well as, Minister's Tours of the Baffin, Kitikmeot, Keewatin and Mackenzie Delta Regions.

The material from the Community Planning and Lands Division and Community Governance date from 1955, 1970-2000 and includes minutes and files from the following Committees: Land Use Advisory Committee, Senior Management Committee, Land Review Committee, Land Claims Working Group, Land Information System Working Group and the Federal/Territorial Land Committee. There includes files related to the Land Claims Working Group, self government negotiations and service to Status Indians. There is substantial documentation regarding MACA's responsibilities and efforts in Land Claims work, including a small number of cartographic records (Norman Wells only). In addition, there are various files relating to departmental acts/regulations, policies and planning files. Also included are Annual Workplans for Community Planning (1986-1994); minutes of Community Planners Meetings (1986-1993); Annual reports re: Monitoring of the Planning Act (1990-1993); copies of various policy and procedures manuals related to Community Planning; a set of completed surveys related to Solid Waste Disposal; records related to standards and criteria for capital planning, review and revisions to the water and sewage subsidy program. There is also a small group of community planning records and maps for Pond Inlet from 1987-1990. Other community planning records and maps relate to the Beaufort Delta region and the South Slave region. There are also operational evaluations of communities in the Beaufort Delta region.

The records from the Directorate date between 1988-2011 and consist primarily of manual, policy binders, handbooks and reports. The record include handbooks and manuals related to management of water and sanitation services, formula financing for communities, land administration training, municipal works training, local government manuals and treatment and handling of hazardous waste material, records relating to real estate licensing and the review of the territorial lottery process. Also included are transcripts of interviews with residents of Fort Rae, organizational charts for the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs and strategic planning documents for the department from 1989-1990, and a service contract for Nunavut. In addition, there are reports to the Directorate from the divisions, issue files, Social Agenda files, briefing notes and Minister Responsible for Youth, Deputy Minister and Ministerial Chronos.

The records from the Corporate Affairs or Corporate Services Division date from 1977-2013 and relate to emergency measures, Community Empowerment, Municipal Community Assistance Program (MCAP), a 1995 Ministers of Local Government Conference and conference hosted by MACA and the NWT Association of Municipalities, Government of the Northwest Territories Steering Committee-Pine Point, aboriginal claims and briefing notes from the 1st Session, 7th Session and 8th Session of the Legislative Assembly. There are files concerning the delivery of the community development fund and a legislative proposal to amend the Municipal Statutes Act, as well as user pay/user say initiatives. In addition, there are files from the regional office in Inuvik related to the department's involvement with the Arctic Winter Games, policy and guidelines for the Fitness Leadership Certification Program, workshop material about the Staff and Volunteer Training Program, a copy of an organizational planning tool that was produced by the department and disseminated during workshops hosted by MACA, as well as memorandum of Understanding with Arctic College concerning the Recreation Leaders Program. In addition, there are student education plans and evaluations for the Recreation Leaders Program. Records also include decision papers, legislation files related to the Area Development Act and the Municipal Statutes Amending Act, and reports on conferences.

The records from the Surveys and Mapping Division date from 1987 and relate to a review of the division.

The records from the Sport and Recreation Division date from 1978 to 2007 and include training materials for communities to develop effective recreation committies and records related to recration facility development including community based project files and policy binders. Records also include meeting minutes from 2006-2007.

Records from the Fort Smith Regional Office consist of trip reports to communities conducted by MACA staff as well as training initiatives being delivered by the Department.

Records from the North Slave Regional Office consist of meeting notes, planning documents, and correspondence relating to a functional review of regional operations, as well as correspondence and a presentation relating to a strategic planning workshop.

From the Public Safety division, there are planning and committee records relating to emergency response, search and rescue, forest fire fighting, disaster assistance, safety and preparedness, as well as Memoranda of Understanding with other agencies in relation to emergency response, and lottery licensing guidelines and Hamlet of Paulatuk Lottery Licensing Bylaw. Also included are assessment appeal tribunal files and a file related to legal gambling in the NWT. From the Public Safety division's Office of the Fire Marshal, there are fire fighting training course materials as well as files related to amendments to the Fire Prevention Act.

Records from the Community Development division relate to municipal land selection and land implementation, community transfer initiatives, and community based planning.

There are also reports related to taxation, community planning and financing municipal government.

Records generated by the Directorate include Ministerial and Deputy Minister chronos for most of 2005-2012 and Briefing Notes for 2007-2010.

Records generated by the Investment and Economic Analysis division include files of the Senior Management Committee, both meetings and workshop retreats, an Economic Measures review of programming in the Sahtu and Gwich'in communities, as well as files of the restructuring of the Department of Resources, Wildlife and Economic Development into ITI and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. Records also include files generated by intergovernmental committees and commissions and briefing notes drafted by the division. Records also document the division's review and disbursement of funding and including funding reviews and reports. Records also include the NWT Arts Strategic Plan, NWT Arts Logo Branding Program, Art and Fine Crafts Marketing Strategy Options, a program review of the NWT Community Future Development Corporation, operational guidelines and procedures for the Community Futures Program, reports relating to a trade show and business mission, records of the Agricultural Products Marketing Council (egg marketing), an MOU on contracting with the Gwich'in Tribal Council, an MOU on International business development, records relating to the Barren-ground caribou strategy, briefing material for the 2005 North American Fur & Fashion Exposition, GMVF Trappers Newsletters, as well as background information relating to an arts strategy and policy. Other records relate to the establishment of the Business Development and Investment Corporation (BDIC) and the history of the Business Incentive Program (BIP).

Records generated by the Policy, Legislation and Communications division consist of promotional material related to the promotion of sustainable opportunities in the energy, mines and petroleum resource industry and supporting industry, drafts of various newsletters, reports, booklets, brochures, sector profiles, website content, and fact sheets, communications plans, briefing notes, Visual Identity Guidelines for NWT Arts branding, and publicity records relating to the NWT's participation in Canada's Northern House at the 2010 Olympics. Records document regional promotional material and an overarching vision statement from the Minister. There are also records of the ITI Communications Committee, Senior Management Committee of the Department as kept by the division, 2005-2010, Executive Committee records from 2010-2012, Regional Superintendents Programs and Operations meeting records from 2006-2010, and Mackenzie Gas Project National Energy Board Proceedings weekly meetings from 2005. There are also records from the division that document the development of the Tourism Act, amendment of the Territorial Parks Regulations, the administration of the Agricultural Products Marketing Act, and negotiation of various socio-economic agreements. Policy, Legislation and Communications records also include job action contingency plans and RWED restructuring records, such as meeting minutes, presentations, draft plans and agreements, and communication tools, and decisions papers presented to the FMB and Executive Council.

Records generated by the North Slave office consist of development of an arts and crafts strategy (co-lead with the Department of Education, Culture and Employment) and a file on territorial parks usage statistics.

Records generated by the Tourism and Parks division consist of NWT Tourism correspondence, membership lists, meeting minutes and conference materials, Conversion Study for NWT Tourism's 2005/2006 Campaign Year, and Northwest Territories Tourism Branding Logo Standards and Guidelines; conference calls minutes and correspondence between Tourism headquarters and regional tourism offices; Tourism Marketing Advisory Committee meeting minutes and agendas; survey results and consumer request cards; and a tourism promotion project called the Deh Cho Travel Connection, a participatory tourism strategy to promote travel throughout the Northwest Territories as well as northern Alberta and British Columbia via highways. Records also include background research prepared for a revision of the Travel and Tourism Act, the Tourism Development Handbook, "NWT Tourism Inventory and Gap Analysis" report, and "A Performance and Operations Assessment of The Northwest Territories Outfitted Sport Fishing Industry." The records also relate to the Protected Area Strategy and its relationship to parks.

Records generated by the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Division (formerly the Minerals, Oil and Gas Division) include agreements, meeting materials from the Pipeline Steering Committee, Mackenzie Gas Advisory Group, Economic and Employment Development Committee, Diamond Review Committee, and NWT Geoscience Office Joint Advisory Committee, and publications focusing on oil and gas, minerals, and mining.

Records generated by the Industrial Initiatives Division include material relating to the negotiation of a socio-economic agreement for the Mackenzie Gas Project.

Records generated by the Geoscience Office relate to outreach activities like prospector training and community mapping programs.

This fonds consists of approximately 74.31 meters of textual material, 218 colour photographs and slides, 11 posters, 1 Betacam videocassette, 84 microfiches of textual material, and one 16 mm film created by the Department of Economic Development and Tourism. The majority of the textual material is comprised of files from the Central Registry system. It also includes some records from regional offices.

The Directorate series (60 Block), dating from 1960-1993, includes policy files, organization and evaluation files training files, long range planning files, Economic Development Agreement (EDA) files, files related to the NWT Business Development Corporation and the NWT Business Credit Corporation, reports for headquarters and regional offices, base line studies, business development and impact studies; project files of significance to the Deputy Minister, speeches, records related to the reorganization of the Department, conference and committee files from the Business Development Committee and Intersettlement Trade Advisory Committee, community files that relate to economic development project proposals, settlement files, materials related to the Council of the Northwest Territories, Commissioners tours, and other organizations involved in economic development in the North, as well as files related to the Mackenzie Highway committee and the Mackenzie Pipeline initiative.

The Tourism and Parks Series (61 Block) dating from 1962 to 1998 includes records concerning the development of parks and the tourism industry in the North, such as administration, community consultation, promotion, research and development, feasibility studies and reports. The files include copies of the Explorer's Guide, records related to promotion efforts, visitor studies, camps, fishing and hunting lodges, as well as information and minutes from meetings for the NWT Hotels Association, Keewatin Tourism Committee, Northern Frontier Country Tourism Committee, Travel Industry Association, Big River Country Travel Association, Western Arctic Visitors Association, and the Arctic Coast Tourism Zone Association.The records concerning parks development date from 1970 to 1996 and relate to the development of signage, historic sites and tours, interpretive displays, visitor's centres, exhibits and general park and campground development, including infrastructure. The files contain reports of consultants, contracts, and negotiations with stakeholders such as communities and tour operators. The files are organized by individual park or project.

The Economic and Industrial Series/Industry and Commerce Series (62 Block) dating from 1960-1987, includes files relating to Cooperatives, Arts and Crafts, Business Development, the Economic Development Agreement (EDA), the Canada - NWT Oil and Gas, Minerals Accord from the early 1990s. Foods, Settlements, Project Operations, Companies, Forestry, Marketing, Agricultural and Industrial Development-Financial Planning.

The Employment Series (67 Block), dating from 1969-1983, includes committee records, community employment files, liaison with local industry files, liaison with other government agencies, local initiatives program files, Eskimo relocation files, apprenticeship program files, Manpower Needs Committee files, Employment of Native Northerners files, training programme files, and monthly reports by region.

The Administration Series (68 Block), dating from 1978 includes material related to a Regional Superintendent's Conference.

There are also records from the Loans and Grants Series (69 Block), dating from 1967-1986 and include files relating to the Small Business Loan Fund, Eskimo Loan Fund, Indian Loan fund, Assistance to Fisherman Policy and Correspondence, Tourism Development Grants and Promotion Grants.

The records for the Fort Smith/South Slave Regional Office include Tourism Marketing Program Summary Package, Consumer & Travel Trade Show Staff Attendance manual, Division of the Northwest Territories Implementation Plan, records of the Regional Coordinating Committee for Fort Smith and the Senior Management Committee of Economic Development and Tourism, Tourism Marketing Services program records, reports, and correspondence. Other records document participation in the Tourism Training Group, NWT Arctic Tourism, and Deh Cho/Mackenzie Connection. There are also records relating to departmental logo and slogan, and reorganization and business planning.

Also included in the textual material is a ledger recording fur sales between 1939-1969, a list of trading posts and outpost licenses that were issued in the Northwest Territories between 1962-1977, correspondence and applications for funding for economic development projects within the Northwest Territories, such as the Eskimo Dog Research Foundation and material relating to federal employment initiative programs, such as the Subsidized Term Employment Program (STEP). There is a series of reports and papers from the Planning and Resources Development Division concerning the development of renewable resources, such as northern minerals and oil, marketing plans and economic prospects for the NWT, the Cooperative (Co-op) movement and the Small Business Loan fund. In addition to reports and studies, there is policy material from this division, as well as committee files from the Resource Development Committee, Committee on Incentives for the Development of Remote Regions, Technical Committee of the Water Board, Transportation Standing Committee, Environmental Review Committee and the Norman Wells Impact Task Force. There is also promotional material, and tourism industry booklets produced by the Department, TravelArctic and other arms-length agencies. Additional records include Heritage River studies and reports and a feasibility study on a wild game processing plant. There is also a series of reports relating to fisheries from the 1990s.

The photographs depict a Dene and Inuit arts and crafts display, as well as images of traditional Dene and Inuit games, which were exhibited during the 1976 Montreal Olympics. In addition, there are photographs of festivities that took place in Resolute to celebrate the establishment of Ellesmere Island National Park. In addition, there are slides generated by the Arts and Crafts program that depict beadwork, clothing quillwork and arts and crafts production within several communities in the Northwest Territories. The Betacam videocassette is a production entitled "Dene Arts and Crafts", which was produced by Swan Productions in conjunction with the Department of Economic Development and Tourism.

The G-2007-025 accession consists of approximately 30 cm of reports, brochures and other textual material. The material mainly consists of policy guides, published reports and brochures. Topics range from tourism development, region economic studies, how to start your own business, venture capital grants, information on co-operatives, and information on trades. Notably this accession includes a guide on how to properly format the blue on white polar bear NWT logo for printing on promotional material.

This fonds consists of approximately 44 meters of textual records and approximately 70 photographs created and accumulated by the Northern Administration Branch and its various predecessors, from 1923 to 1971. The material was generated by the Federal government's activities in administering the Northwest Territories. Most of the records (over 34 m of textual records) are composed of files transferred from Ottawa to Yellowknife beginning in 1967, and include administrative and operational files. The majority of these files date between 1949 and 1967 and incorporate: correspondence, reports, vital statistic information, financial data, minutes, and a wide variety of reference material kept by the department. The files were classified via a numerical block system. The block system consisted of primary, secondary and tertiary levels such that a composite file number (for example 311-105-93) would represent a progression from general subject matter to a specific subject and/or location. The following primary blocks arrange the files:

100 - Administration;
200 - Economic and Industrial Development;
300 - Engineering Projects;
400 - Forests and Game;
500 - Public Service;
600 - Education;
1000 - General files on settlements, associations, companies, provinces, foreign countries, Inuit affairs, and resources;
20 - Individual case files;
3 - Personnel and organizational files.

None of the 700, 800 or 900 block files were forwarded to the NWT Archives. Moreover, at the time of transfer from Ottawa, it appears that other records from the file blocks brought to Yellowknife were culled in Ottawa. In addition, not all government functions were transferred in 1967, and some files contain records generated after 1967 from the continued administration of a function either by the federal government or from the use of the files by the new Territorial Government. A small number of photographs were located in the files during processing, however, these images have been left in their original files.

Additional accruals to this fonds make up another 10 meters of textual records and include the Northern Administration Branch records from the Fort Churchill district office dating from 1960 to 1970, and Western Arctic education records from 1964 to 1969.

Other records of this fonds consist of: four ledgers kept between 1923 and 1967 documenting fur trapping and fur trading activities, four ledgers documenting fur and game take and value on registered trap lines, various licensing, and scientific research work; budget papers including estimates, expenditure statements and capital substantiation reports for 1966 to 1969; 2 supplementary readers, "Nuna" and "The Story of Papik an Eskimo Boy" compiled by the Curriculum Section of the Education Division from the journals of young Inuit children; and a 1954 report produced by C.C. Johnson, a Resident Engineer from Fort Smith. This report, entitled "Preliminary Report, Mackenzie Highway - Mills Lake Road" includes 31 corner mounted photographic prints and 16 black and white negatives. The report discusses plans to build a road to Mills Landing. In addition, there are copies of the Eskimo Bulletin dated from 1953-1959. The Eskimo Bulletin was produced by the Northern Administration and Land Branch in order to teach Inuit the English language.

This accession consists of one copy of a 1960-61 yearbook from Sir Alexander Mackenzie School in Inuvik. The yearbook has a cover made of cloth with an applique of the letters SAM.

This fonds consists of 36 cm of textual material and 124 colour slides. The textual material is made up of 12 volumes of Harrman's journals dated August 6, 1959 to November 11, 1967, a manuscript of an unpublished story entitled "Lucy Beavertail," numerous short stories, sketchbooks, cards and personal records, including accounts. The 124 colour slides feature Rae and the paintings of Charles Harrman.

This fonds consists of 9.15 meters of textual material, 56 microfilm reels, 51 maps, 2 Umatic videocassettes, 8 reels of helical scan video and 24 audiocassettes. The textual material consists of transcripts of a meeting between the Oblate Fathers from settlements throughout the Mackenzie District and the Department of Local Government. The discussion involved the transfer of responsibilities from the Northern Administration Branch to the Government of the Northwest Territories in 1967. The bulk of the textual material contains records dating from 1967-1986. These records relate to the development and management of hamlets, towns, and communities across the Northwest Territories. They include details on services such as water and sanitation as provided and managed by the Department of Local Government, as well as files related to the Northwest Territories Municipal Association and departmental policies and initiatives, including recreation. Approximately 60 cm of the textual material consists of bound minutes from Pine Point Council Meetings that were held from 1969-1986, as well as financial statements from the community of Pine Point. In addition, there are files concerning the development, implementation, and operation of the Arctic Airports program, including position papers and reports created by Transport Canada with comments from GNWT officials, as well as reports, recommendations and minutes of meetings from the Airports Committee, a discussion paper concerning the development and implementation of the Arctic Air Facilities policy, and ongoing correspondence and planning documents.

The 56 microfilm reels contain records dated between 1967-1973 from the Central Registry file system and contain files from the following program areas: Directors Monthly Meetings (11 block); Policy Files (13 block); Administration (20 block); Municipal Affairs Division (21 block); Development Division (22 block); Town Planning and Lands (24 block); Recreation (25 block); Emergency Measures Division (26 block) and Employment Liaison Division (29 block).

There are 44 maps which are line transparency plans from the Town Planning and Lands Division of the Department of Local Government. Communities represented are: Arctic Bay, Broughton Island (Qikiqtarjuaq), Cape Dorset, Coppermine (Kugluktuk), Enterprise, Fort Franklin (Deline), Fort Providence, Hall Beach, Hay River, Igloolik (Iglulik), Paulatuk, Pond Inlet, Rankin Inlet, Resolute Bay, Sachs Harbour, Sanikiluaq, Snowdrift (Lutsulk'e), Trout Lake, and Wrigley. The 13 microfilm reels from the Town Planning and Lands Division contain settlement drawings for the following communities: Fort Simpson, Tuktoyaktuk, Yellowknife, Fort Providence, Fort Rae, Fort Resolution, Fort Smith, Spence Bay, Snowdrift, Stagg River, Alexander Falls, Inuvik, Fort McPherson, Fort Norman, Pine Point, Rankin Inlet, Sachs Harbour, Banks Island, Aklavik, Baker Lake, Hay River, Igloolik, Cambridge Bay, Holman Island, Enterprise, Gjoa Haven, Nahanni Butte, Chesterfield Inlet, Coral Harbour, Edzo, Morphy, Fort Franklin, Frobisher Bay, Port Harrison, Fort Good Hope and Hall Lake. There are also 7 land use planning maps which relate to Fort Simpson, Pine Point, and Enterprise.

The 2 Umatic videocassettes contain footage of James Washee, a Minister of Local Government, discussing Community Ordinance legislation. One recording is in English and one recording is in Inuktitut. Also included in the accession are eight reels of helical scan video. These appear to be related to local government conferences.

The sound recordings consist of 24 audiocassettes that contain recordings from an Economic Development Conference held in 1979 that featured speakers such as John Todd, Bertha Allen and Stuart Hodgson. In addition, eight of the audiocassettes contain recordings of the Pine Point Council Meetings from 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1987. One meeting from each year was retained as a sample.

Finally, this fonds includes approximately 40 cm of publications and reports from 1967-[1988]. The majority of the material consists of published community development plans. There are also water and sanitation reports, water and energy conservation papers, airport maintenance manual, comparative studies between municipalities in the NWT and those of western provinces, and a report of a committee on the future of Inuit hunting camps. Also notably included is a public discussion paper on devolution.

This fonds consists of approximately 13.3 meters of textual material, 12 plans, 30 oversized textual documents (land titles), and 44 audio cassettes.

The bulk of the textual material consists of records from the Directorate and the Policy and Planning divisions. These records include correspondence, working and discussion papers, legislative proposals and other records related to the amendment or enactment of Territorial legislation, including the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Human Rights Act. There are also Deputy Minister and Ministerial chronos, as well as Ministerial briefing books.

There are records regarding conferences organized by the department, as well as correspondence and reports related to the reorganization of the Department, including documentation of Corrections and Lands Titles functions to the department, planning for division, aboriginal self-government, as well as Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and services agreements between Justice and the Department of Social Services. There are records that document a gender equality review, amendments to the definition of spouse under the Family Law Act and Adoption Act, an investigative report on hiring practices in two correctional facilities, and a public awareness campaign about crystal meth, as well as records that document the Task Force on Legal Aid, and court reforms. The records also include judicial decisions of the Labour Standards Board for 2004-2005. As well, there are program review files, training proposals, discussion papers, action plans and reports from the following programs and divisions: Justice of the Peace program, Legal Services Board, Labour Standards Board, Territorial Firearms Officer, Maintenance Enforcement Program, Coroner’s Office, Corrections Division, Rental Office, Court Library and Court Reporters.

Records from the Liquor Licensing Board include sound recordings of board meetings with associated hearings and public meetings.

There are records from the Finance division regarding third-party funding agreements.

There are records from the Corrections Program including a review of Young Offender facilities in the NWT, and material from a conference that was hosted by the Department of Justice on forecasting correctional prison and supervision populations and community corrections. There are also records concerning strategic planning for the Department of Justice, development of the Youth Corrections Manual, as well as copies of Insight Newsletter which was a newsletter produced by the Yellowknife Correctional Centre. In addition, there are files concerning the transfer and implementation of Corrections services to Nunavut, a report from the Yellowknife Correctional Centre Inmate Advisory Committee requesting an Aboriginal Healing program, and copies of an operational review that was done by a consultant called "View of the Future of Social Services for the NWT," an annual report from the Mackenzie Courtworkers Service, minutes from Warden’s meetings and the Youth Justice Committee, and a manual produced for community-based Youth Justice Committees.

There are records from the Community Justice Division, including contribution and protocol agreements. These agreements include proposals or submissions made under the Victims Services Contribution Agreement Program, Victim Assistance Fund or Community Justice Committee Program and include copies of proposals, activity reports and final reports from communities and organizations that received funding under these programs. In addition, there program implementation and evaluation files for the Community Constable Program, Victims Impact Statement program, as well as discussion papers about the Community Justice program, strategic framework for the Victims Services Program, and an evaluation report on the Community Constable Program.

This fonds also includes committee records from the following: Legislation and House Planning Committee, Legislation Proposal Review Committee, Corrections Consolidation Advisory Committee, Aboriginal Justice Committee, Criminal Justice and Corrections Communications Committee, Community Supervision Working Group, Labour Standards Board and records related to meetings and negotiations held between senior management and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), as well as a file related to the RCMP Special Constable program.

Also included in this fonds are 30 land grants, titles and transfers dating from 1913-1951. These documents are primarily oversized text documents, affixed with wax seals and ribbon. High-resolution digital .tif images of all 30 land title documents are available for reference purposes.

In addition, there are 12 bound settlement plans that originated from the Registries and Court Services Division. The plans are of settlement lots for the communities of Fort Smith, Fort Resolution, Hay River, Fort Providence, Fort Simpson, Fort Norman, Fort Good Hope, Fort Liard, Fort Rae, Fort Wrigley, and Fort McPherson. The plans are dated between 1898-1915. Also included from the division are the meeting minutes of the Court Management Committee and correspondence with the Status of Women Council regarding the usage of plain language in court orders.

The fonds also contains miscellaneous papers and reports including the “Conrad Report”, a working paper on amending the Jury Act and paper entitled "Study of Time Factors Involved in the Disposition of Cases in the Territorial Court, Northwest Territories" by Judge R.M. Bourassa.

There is also one file that originated from Vital Statistics entitled 'The Mad Trapper.' The file includes correspondence between the Registrar General of Vital Statistics and those seeking inquiries regarding the death and possible disinterment of the Mad Trapper, Albert Johnson. Also included are copies of the Warrant to Bury Albert Johnson at Aklavik issued in February 1932. A copy of Dick North's report on the question of Johnson's true identity, entitled 'Exhumation of Albert Johnson' is also included.

Although the majority of the images were taken by Father Gathy between 1929 and 1954, a few images of Father Gathy were borrowed from collections held by the O.M.I. Archives in Fort Smith and the Sisters of Saint Joseph Archives in Mount St. Joseph, Ontario. Although the images are mainly of Yellowknife, Fort Norman and Fort Franklin, some were taken aboard the "S.S. McKenzie River". Many of the photographs depict members of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate and the Grey Nuns. There are also images of Dene residents and camps in and around Fort Franklin and Fort Norman. There are a few images of children wearing rabbit skin clothing and one of mooseskin boats.

The images depict daily life, mine employees, the camp and mining operations at Port Radium. In addition, there are several images of Northern Transportation Company Limited tugboats, barges and paddle steamers, as well as locations such as Hay River, Norman Wells and Inuvik.

This fonds consists of 5 mm. of text, 53 black and white photographs (prints) and one DVD version of a film entitled "The Secret Years of Eldorado". The text includes a letter from the Semaine Internationale Contre Le Cancer announcing Charles Labine as as recipient of the "Pierre et Marie Curie" medal in consideration of the discovery of radium; prospectus and share distribution re: "Eldorado Gold Mines Limited" and a "Portfolio of Reproductions of the Documents of Surrender" from the Second World War which was presented to Chalres Labine. The photographs include images of the mining operations at Eldorado Mine at Great Bear Lake.

The fonds consists of yearbooks from St. Patrick's High School.

This accession consists of 7.5 cm of textual records comprised of academic publications authored by Miriam Leith, as well as a large number of draft and research notes produced by Ms. Leith in her research on northern food and nutrition as well as housing programs. Files also contain correspondence and reports concerning northing housing programs. Related to Ms. Leith's work with the Adult Housing Education Program. Also included in the collection are copies of diet information and recipes distributed to the local people. Some of these materials are written in syllabics.

This fonds consists of 9.75 m of textual records, 2 drawings, 16 CDs, 1 zip disk, and 1 USB flash drive, including records from the Directorate, Corporate Management division, Policy, Legislation and Communications division, Environment division (and earlier from the Pollution Control division), Wildlife division, Protected Areas Strategy Secretariat, and Inuvik Region.

Records from the Directorate include ministerial and deputy minister chronos, briefing materials, meeting materials of the Senior Management Committee, Managing This Land Strategic Initiative Committee, Deputy Ministers' Land Use Steering Committee, Joint Climate Change Committee, Energy Coordinating Committee, Deputy Minister's Subcommittee on Science, Arctic Energy Alliance, as well as terms of reference of the Gwich'in Forest Management Steering Committee and correspondence and briefing notes regarding the forest management component of the Gwich'in Land Claim agreement. Records also include meeting materials of the Giant Mine Oversight Committee and the Informatics Steering Committee, land and water framework working groups, meeting materials regarding the restructuring of ENR's predecessor, the Department of Resources, Wildlife and Economic Development, into ENR, material relating to the Territorial response to the Dehcho Land Use Plan, and workshop materials for the Development of a Land Use Framework workshop and a Water Strategy workshop. The records also include a memorandum of agreement with the Canadian Wildlife Federation and records relating to an amendment of the Wildlife Act.

Records from the Corporate Management division's Policy, Legislation and Communications unit (known for a time as the Policy and Strategic Planning division) include policy committee meeting materials, Deputy Ministers Land Use Steering Committee materials, Natural Resources Conservation Trust Fund material, plans for organizational change in the early days of ENR, protocols documenting shared resources with the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment, and records relating to enforcement of legislation, land use and protected areas, caribou management, and department-wide training. Other records relate to the revision of the Wildlife Act, creation of the Species at Risk Act, and amendment of the Forest Management regulations, including meeting materials, reports, drafts, discussion papers, and records relating to public consultations. Records also include preliminary screening of land use permits, land lease applications, and water licence applications that were reviewed by the department and its predecessor, the Department of Resources, Wildlife and Economic Development, as mandated by the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act (MVRMA). Records also include IRMA (Interim Resource Management Assistance) files, as well as Interim Measures Agreement files (IMA) as managed by DIAND and copied to RWED, who later became the lead on such files after devolution in 2014. Records also include communications on department programs and initiatives.

Records from the Environment Division include proceedings of the utilities management committee, program results from partnership with Ecology North, and legal opinions on environmental issues and case files in conjunction with the Department of Justice. Records also include agreements related to spills in the NWT.

Records from the Wildlife Division include files from the revision of the Wildlife Act, Species at Risk Programs, various publications, study information, briefing notes (2005-2006), and committee material for the Deputy Ministers’ Sub-Committee on the Science Act, Seismic Guidelines Steering Committee, and West Kitikmeot/Slave Study Society Board.

Records from the Forest Management Division relate to timber supply and NWT Forest Industry Conferences and Workshops (2005-2006).

Records from the Protected Areas Strategy Secretariat include material from the Implementation Advisory Committee, Steering Committee, working groups, Secretariat, funders, forums, and workshop, material related to activities in the Akaitcho, Gwich'in, Sahtu, and Deh Cho regions, agreements, and communications materials.

Records from the Inuvik region include RWED Operations Manual, ENR Field Operations Manual Standard Operating Procedures, Summary of Hunting Regulations July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007, and material for a 2007 Research Day.

The photographs in this fonds document multiple trips down the Mackenzie River (Dehcho) on both the S.S. Mackenzie River and the S.S. Distributor. The images document the communities visited along the river, and in particular the barge supply route for the Canol Project from Waterways (Alberta) to Norman Wells (NWT) and members of the United States Army 388th Engineer Battalion working on the pipeline project.
