Records date from 1969-2000 and include a report on how responsibility for Aboriginal housing was transferred to the GNWT. Records include background documents from the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development. There are also reports that were completed by the NWTHC on the analysis of utility costs in public housing, a summary report and background material from NWTHC strategic planning workshop, as well as a work plan and outline of a transfer framework related to the GNWT community empowerment initiative and how it impacted the NWT Housing Corporation. The majority of the records consist of correspondence between the NWTHC and a consulting firm that was hired to complete housing needs surveys. Records include the Final Technical Project Report, as well as housing needs survey reports for the following communities: Iqaluit, Kugluktuk, Yellowknife, Bay Chimo, Pelly Bay, Pond Inlet, Norman Wells, Wha Ti, Paulatuk and Snare Lake. The remaining records include correspondence and implementation strategy regarding the transfer of the responsibility of social housing to NWTHC from the CMHC (Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation), correspondence and report between NWTHC and CMHC regarding northern Aboriginal housing and an executive summary, correspondence, reports and decision papers regarding the harmonization of social assistance programs (Education, Culture and Employment) and public housing programs.
