Textual records include diaries from the 1930s to the 1970s. Also included is correspondence, both business and personal, genealogy of the Magrum family, and a draft copy of a Ray Price manuscript entitled 'Brief History of Yellowknife'. The photographs depict George Magrum and his activities hunting and trapping on the barrenlands of the Northwest Territories, as well as those of his family and extended family. The sound recordings appear to be related to Mr. Magrum's diaries.

Records include 197 black and white photographs taken by Finnie between 1939 and 1946 that feature people and scenes of Yellowknife, Fort Rae, Aklavik, Fort Norman, Norman Wells, Fort Smith, and the Canol Project. The accession also contains a photograph album containing 142 colour prints titled "Canol: The Authors Photographic Post Mortem" which was put together by Finnie from photos of his 1977 tour of the remains of the Canol project. The films in this accession are: "In the Shadow of the Pole" (1928); "The Arctic Patrol" (1929); "Among the Igloo Dwellers" (1930-31); "Ikpuck, The Igloo Dweller" (highlights from "Among the Igloo Dwellers"); "Patrol to the Northwest Passage" (1937); "The Dogrib Treaty" (1939); and "Canol" (1946?). The first two films listed cover the Eastern Arctic voyages of the "Beothic" (ship), and the next two focus on the Copper Inuit. "Patrol to the Northwest Passage" depicts the meeting of the "Nascopie" (ship) and "Aklavik" (ship). There are copies of all the films on Umatic videocassette and copies on Betacam videocassette for "The Igloo Dweller", "The Dogrib Treaty" and "Canol". The sound recordings are of Trevor Lloyd interviewing Henry Larsen and Vilhalmjur Stefansson in 1962, E.M. Weyer interviewing Stefansson in 1955 and the soundtrack from the 1962 National Film Board film "Stefansson the Arctic Prophet."

The textual material dates from 1978-1988 and consists of Exhibit Storyline and Exhibit Content Plans for the North and South Galleries at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. In addition, there are Exhibit scripts for Chapters in Our History, The North before People, Greenland Kayak Exhibit, Dene Women's Art Exhibit and the traveling exhibit about "The Land." The textual material also includes two Pilot's Log Books from 1928 and 1946 that belonged to Walter James Beaumont. The sound recordings contain interviews with J. Davids and H. Hollick-Kenyon, Denny May, Cam Jordheim and Mark Dodd. The content of the material focuses on aviation in the north, bush pilots, and Wop May. It is likely that this material was used in developing the aviation exhibit at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. The 2 videocassettes are in Umatic or Betacam formats and consist master copies of "Trapline Lifeline" and "Wings of Change." "Trapline Lifeline" was a traveling exhibit that examined the history and modern-day realities of fur trapping. The exhibit contained an audio-visual section that included video footage of interviews with trappers and an overview of life in northern communities. "Wings of Change" is the video component from the aviation gallery at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre.

The textual records consist of the diary of Louise Buffum dated from 1939-1945. The photographs were taken and collected by the Buffum family and many images depict the covers or interior images of personalized Christmas cards from bush pilots and other people who stayed with the Buffum family. There are also photographs of floatplanes, bush pilots, barges, the Buffum family and images of many buildings and Treaty Days at Fort Rae. The sound recordings contain an interview conducted by the Territorial Archivist, David Rudkin with Lyn Orchuk in 1985.

The accession has been arranged into four series: 1) sound recordings; 2) administration files; 3) transcripts; 4) black and white negatives. The textual records consist of English transcripts of the interviews (box/file 1-8 to 1-18 and 2-1 to 2-6); and other textual materials related to the planning, funding, and administration of the project (box/file 1-1 to 1-7). Records also consist of a copy of the questionnaire used as a basis for each interview, as well as a copy of the publication "That's the Way We Lived." The photographs depict the staff and pupils of the Roman Catholic Mission School in Fort Resolution and elders in the community, some of whom were interviewed during the project. The sound recordings were generated during interviews with 17 elders. 181 audiocassettes are in Chipewyan and the remaining 172 are verbatim English translations of the original Chipewyan. Subjects covered in the interviews include Chipewyan stories and legends, spiritual beliefs, traditional medicines, child-rearing, childbirth, attitudes about alcohol, family histories, hunting and fishing techniques, traditional forms of self-government, attitudes toward southern forms of government, the Roman Catholic Church and the Residential School in Fort Resolution.

The textual records consists of one letter describing the audiocassette. Most of the photographs date from between 1963 and 1978, although there is one from 1932 and several from 1993. The photographs document the Reverend Ben S. Hall's life in Hay River from 1963-1970, as well as a 1978 Boy Scouting trip to Coppermine and Pine Point. They also depict images of public events, the local "Indian village," aircraft, clergy, and Yellowknife. The audio cassette narrates the series of colour slides of the Boy Scout trip to Coppermine and Pine Point.

The records document the McMeekan family and their professional lives, including records relating to Jock's publishing and Mildred's teaching activities. The photographs show Jock McMeekan, Mildred Hall, Helena and other family members and friends. The sound recordings contain narration for the film and an interview with adopted daughter, Helena Hall (McMeekan) Acikahte. The films probably date from 1939-1949, and feature family members, scenes of Yellowknife and environs and subjects such as treaty days, prospecting, and school events.

The textual records consist of a typewritten letter dated June 11, 1941 sent to Archie Jamieson when he was employed by Slave Lake Gold Mines Ltd., from the Bank of Nova Scotia regarding a money order. The sound recordings contain interviews with Barbara Knudsen (nee Byrne) and Donald Byrne about their memories of Outpost Island. There is also an interview with Mary Lou MacLeod Connery about her time in Goldfields, Saskatchewan. The interviews were conducted in 2006 by David Jamieson.

The textual records consists of one report from the Children's Aid Society of Yellowknife (1959). The photographs were removed from an album that was assembled by Mr. Ross for a display for the 50th anniversary session of the Mine Rescue. The sound recordings contain an interview done by the NWT Archives with Mr. Richard Ross in 1984. The original audio cassette was copied to two audio reels in January 1994. The sound recordings contain an interview with Ross that includes a short biographical sketch, descriptions of the photographs in the album and some historical information on mining operations and Yellowknife.

The photographs were taken by A.K Miller between 1940 and 1942, and document Miller's trip from northern Alberta down the Slave and Mackenzie Rivers. The images depict a variety of water transportation, such as the S.S. "Radium King," S.S. "Distributor," M.S. "Liard River," S.S. "Mackenzie River" and different barges. As well, there are several images of CANOL crews and construction, including African-American servicemen. There are also images of Canadian Pacific Airways aircraft, camps and dog teams. The sound recording consists of an interview with Miller conducted by the NWT Archives in 1986. The interview contains biographical information on Miller and an explanation of river transportation in the north.

The first cassette contains an interview with Norma Stedman and Wyn Manifold who taught in the North during the 1950's and 1960's. The second cassette is an interview with Norman Simmons who discusses teaching school in Cape Dorset between 1948-1950. The third cassette contains a discussion about education in the North during the 1960s. The interviewer and subject are unknown. The fourth cassette contains a narration by Cathy McGregor about moose hide tanning in Nahanni Butte.

The sound recordings are of Joseph Naedzo speaking in Tlicho (Dogrib). He is the grandfather of the donor.

The recordings are of the 2nd Annual Drum Dance Festival held at the Coppermine school on December 25-26, 1955. David S. Wilson recorded the festival and provided an introduction and periodic commentary on the recordings.

The film is entitled "Dene Nation." The sound recordings document dance and music from "Our Land, Our Life" comprised of recordings from Fort Good Hope of drum music, Dene songs and North Slavey (Hareskin) language; as well as audio from slide shows and films, including "My Country My People," "I Was Born Here" and "Dene Nation." The sound recordings from Fort Good Hope, likely recorded in 1957, feature members of the Pierrot, Kakfwi, Remi, Edgi, Masuzumi, Lafferty, Cotchilly, Taureau, Emmanuel, and Kelly families.
