Records consist of a transcription of a speech given by John Parker, Commissioner of the Northwest Territories, at the opening ceremonies of William McDonald Junior High School. The content of the speech concentrates on the life and work of William L. McDonald.

Records date from 1973-1990 and consist of Plans and Program files relating to the Mackenzie Valley Pipeline, Nanisivik Mines, Polar Gas Project and Beaufort Delta Oil Project. In addition, there are Committee files from the Regional Management Committee in Inuvik and Inuvik Regional Health Board and files from Hamlet and Settlement Meetings from the Mackenzie Delta, Western Arctic, Baffin and Great Bear Lake Regions.

The records date from 1975-1976. The first reel is a recording of a board meeting from 1976. Discussion involves representation from the GNWT, the federal government, the Northern Canada Power Commission (the predecessor to the NWT Power Corporation), the Canada Mortgage and Housing Commission (CMHC), and the Northern Transportation Company Ltd. (NTCL). Subjects include housing in Inuvik, the level of postal service in Yellowknife, runway conditions, and tailings ponds. Included is a discussion of the functions of the Treasury Board Secretariat led by Gary Mullins. In addition the board discusses GNWT staff housing, an Arctic Air Symposium, a task force on northern business, and airport manager training in the NWT, the viability of Arctic Bay, the creation of the road to Nanisivik from Arctic Bay, and the lead-zinc mine opened by Cominco on Little Cornwallis Island. The second reel features a panel discussion on the the status of women and the International Year of Women in the NWT in which the impact of the Royal Commission on the Status of Women (1967) and its effect on the creation of the NWT Status of Women Action Committee is discussed. This also includes background on the National Action Committee (NAC) and the look ahead to the International Year of Women (1975).

Records include reports, correspondence and Records of Decision regarding the Heritage Resources Act, the NWT Mining Act, and the NWT Mining Income Tax Act dating from 1993-1996.

The records date from 1988-1999 and include mine inspector reports from Miramar (Con), Giant, Colomac, Ptarmigan, and Treminco mines as well as Investigations/Accidents/Incidents reports from Colomac mine.

Records include meeting minutes from the senior management committee, an Information Systems strategic planning report, and a case file relating to legal action taken by the families of workers killed in the 1992 explosion at Giant Mine.

Records relate to large-scale projects undertaken by the division for the promotion and education of workplace safety. This includes the 2007 annual Mine Rescue Competition, the 2004 National Youth Safety Conference organized and hosted by the Workers' Compensation Board (WCB), and a television advertisement public service announcement campaign on overexertion in the workplace. The CD-R contains several commercials commissioned by the WCB and was produced by Cinepost films.

Records include reports and correspondence regarding safety training and evalution, original issues of the Mining Review newsletter, and records regarding divisional objectives.

Records include corporate plans for 2006-2008, promotion and scheduling of the Mine Rescue Competition, 1999-2004, and a survey of stakeholders completed in 2005.

Records include files on reviewing the Workers' Compensation Act and Ordinance and Regulations for amendments, agreements signed between the WCB and the GNWT, as well as appointments made under the Mine Health and Safety Act and records of the Mine Occupational Health and Safety Legislation Committee.

Records date from 1994-2001 and consist of three files relating to mining industry winter road access, one file with varied material regarding NWT investment and trading strategies, including a brochure and report. There is one file on the Aurora Fund, a venture capital fund related to the federal Immigration Investor Program. Finally, there is also one file containing a consultant's report on household expenditure cost differentials between the NWT and southern communities.

Records include files related to economic development and natural resource management strategies; the Protected Areas Strategy; land use planning, the Commissioner's Land Review Committee; and financial support programs for harvesters and hunters.

Records include files on mineral development, correspondence regarding energy alternatives as well as natural gas power feasibility for Inuvik and Hay River, strategy and northern hiring practices, Development Impact Zones (DIZ's) and major project preparedness for full-scale hydrocarbon development of the Northwest Territories.

Records relate to incentives for mining companies in the NWT, as well as correspondence and reports relating to BHP mining sites Ekati and the "Boston" exploration project. Also included is correspondence and public feedback regarding the proposed beryllium mining project at Thor Lake.

Records date from 1998-1999 and concerns the department's evaluation and assessment of the Environmental Assessment report produced by the Diavik Diamonds project.

This accession consists of records of the Industrial Initiatives division of the Department of Resources and Natural Resources ( RWED, later the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI)), particularly relating to diamond mining (Diavik, BHP, De Beers) and the Mackenzie Gas project. Other projects and locations featured less prominently include the Can Tung Mine, Bathurst Inlet, Lupin Mine, and Paramount Resources (Cameron Hills). The records include meeting material from the Diavik Communities Advisory Board, meetings of various groups related to the Mackenzie Gas Project Socio-Economic Agreement, Deputy Ministers' Pipeline Steering Committee, and Mackenzie Valley Development Project Working Group, briefing material (including briefing notes from other divisions in RWED), speaking notes, grants and contributions policies and procedures, and reports, including Socio-Economic Monitoring Agreement status reports, annual Communities and Diamonds reports, and Economic Accounts 1987-1996.

The accession consists of records from the Wildlife and Fisheries division of the Department of Resources, Wildlife and Economic Development relating to the environment assessment and monitoring of the Diavik Diamond Mine. The records include reports, correspondence, meeting notes, presentation slides and speaking notes from public meetings, a draft Diavik Environmental Agreement, wildlife impact linkage diagrams, reviews, comments and responses, and records of the GNWT-Diavik Working Group and the Environmental Monitoring Advisory Board.

This accession consists of records from the Department of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources and from the Department of Resources, Wildlife and Economic Development. The records relate to the "Increasing the Number of Northern Workers in the NWT Mineral Industry - Impacts and Strategies" study, the “NWT Mining Statistics Survey Financial & Statistical Results Details by Individual Mines 1990-1992” survey, mineral royalty and mining taxation options, a draft Mining Income Tax Act, website development for the Coronation Gulf Mineral Development Area and the Mackenzie Valley Mineral Development Area, and mineral exploration projects.
