This fonds consists of 118 black and white copy negatives. The images include locations such as Aklavik, Baker Lake, Bathurst Inlet, Chesterfield Inlet, Coppermine, Shingle Point (Yukon), and Herschel Island (Yukon). Images feature Inuit, buildings (including igloos), boats and Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) personnel.

This fonds consists of three 16 mm films, sound recordings which are narrations for two of the films, 69 photographs and some correspondence. The films are about the following subjects: the topography, flora and fauna of the Thelon River area, Colville Lake and Victoria Island. The narration for the Colville Lake and Victoria Island films is on 4 audio cassettes, which were reformatted to DAT audio cassette in 1993. The 69 colour slides (a few are duplicates) document locations including Great Bear Lake, Colville Lake, Victoria Island and the Thelon Refuge. There are also images of Duncan Pryde, Father Bern Will Brown, and George Rysgaard. The accession also contains correspondence from Father Brown (Bern Will Brown) to George Rysgaard and correspondence with Dr. Breckenridge, concerning the 1970 trip to the Thelon River area. The correspondence includes lists of mammals and birds observed, and plant specimens collected.

This fonds consists of 41 copy negatives, most believed to date from the Days' 1907 to 1909 stay in Fort Simpson. Images are primarily of people, but St. David's church and mission in Fort Simpson are featured. Locations include Fort Simpson, Hay River and Fort Norman. Eight of the photographs were taken by Henry W. Jones, who was a professional photographer in Hay River.

This fonds consists of copies of a number of presentations made by the participants of the 1990 Circumpolar Conference on Literacy. Included is a copy of the conference program and copies of the text for speeches by Stephen Kakfwi, Minister of Education and Leslie J. Limage of UNESCO.

This fonds consists of 84 cm of textual records, approximately 1600 photographs, 55 audiocassettes, 1 poster and 1 videocassette. The material is dated from 1977-1995 and relates to the administration and functions of the Northwest Territories Council for Disabled Persons. The textual records, 1977 to 1991, include: monthly reports of the Executive Director, President, and various committees within the Council; minutes; records of clients throughout the Northwest Territories; the Ability column; and files from special projects and functions such as the Celebrity Auction, Bike-A-Thon, Handi-van, workshops and conferences. Some files relate to the Inuvik Council for the Disabled, and the communities of Pine Point and Hay River. The photographs date between 1986-1995 and contain images of: Kids on the Block (KOB) puppet performance tours by Barb Barnet and Barb Bond to Gjoa Haven, Cambridge Bay, and Coppermine; Celebrity Auction; National Access Awareness Week (NAAW) events; Bike-a-thons; posters; the Council's museum display for the International Year of Disabled Persons (IYDP); Run For Light (1986); conferences; and Rick Hansen's visit to Yellowknife. The sound cassettes, 1986-1991, feature recordings from conferences, an aldermanic candidates forum, and speakers on topics such as respite care, services in the north, advocacy and independent living centres, and accessibility. A few of the recordings are in Inuktitut. The accession also contains one 8 mm video tape of approximately 11 minutes of Kids on the Block puppet performances, and one poster published by the Northwest Territories Council for the Disabled for the International Year of Disabled Persons (1981).

The fonds consists of approximately 800 black and white prints and cellulose nitrate negatives. The images are contained in two photo albums and two corresponding negative albums. It also includes two file folders of photographs and a number of framed prints. The images depict Hudson's Bay Company buildings and personnel at Fort Collinson, Gjoa Haven and Tuktoyaktuk. The textual material consists of Charles Rowan's correspondence from his time at Fort Collinson, particularly concerning his use of "Barneys" Tobacco, a letter of reference from Bishop Fleming and two reports on traveling time in the arctic, particularly to and from Cambridge Bay. Furthermore, there are two notebooks that were used as "Eskimo-English" and "English-Eskimo" dictionaries. The material dates between 1935-1955.

This fonds consists of 154 duplicates of slides belonging to Joan Ryan. The original slides date from 1957-1960 and mainly feature Whatì [Lac La Martre], although Behchokǫ̀ [Fort Rae], Fort Smith, and Sugluk are also represented. Images include people of Whatì, and activities such as butchering moose, skin and hide preparation, and drying meat and fish.

This fonds consists of two audio reels (archival masters) and one audio cassette (original master) containing the recording entitled "Hooked on the North." The recordings were compiled from oral history tapes of Marjorie Nichol (N-1992-019) and Dennis Williams (N-1992-018). These excerpts are interspersed with narration and music.

This fonds consists of two audio reels and one audio cassette copy of a recording of presentations by Harvey Feit and Fikret Birkes. Harvey Feit, of McMaster University, discusses Cree traditional knowledge, and Fikret Birkes, of Brock University discusses traditional knowledge systems around the world.

This fonds consists of 2 cm of textual material relating to the operation of Alternatives North. Included in the textual material are a statement of principles, minutes, incoming and outgoing correspondence, members lists and pamphlets and flyers from Alternatives North. The records are dated from April to October 1977.

This fonds consists of 2.5 cm of text relating to the operations of the Centennial Committee. Included are minutes of meetings and all incoming and outgoing correspondence generated by the Committee. Details of all the projects that the Committee either proposed or successfully realized are contained in these records. The original chronological order of these records has been maintained. One file contains the records from 1964-1966; the second file contains the materials generated between 1967 and April 4, 1968 when the Committee was formally disbanded.

This fonds consists of 14 audio cassettes and 2 VHS videocassettes containing interviews with elders that resulted from the Snare Lake Education Committee's efforts to gather information for a handbook on cultural programming for use in the school. The elders interviewed during February 1992 were: Harry Kodzin, Margaret Lafferty, Marie Simpson, Jimmy Kodzin, Rosa Fish, Celine Wanazah, Rosa Pea'a, Alexis Arrowmaker, Madeline Judas, Louis Whane, Joe Pea'a, Roger Arrowmaker, Leonard Fish, Charlie Eyakfwo and Joe Dryneck. Activities and topics discussed include: Easter in the past, survival in the bush, making camp, Tlicho (Dogrib) food preparation, Tlicho (Dogrib) social life and customs, hunting and butchering caribou, traditional tools and constructing a drum. Some interviews with John Pea'a on cultural inclusion and religious instruction were conducted in 1989 and collected for this project.

This fonds consists of 3.6 meters of textual material, 328 photographs including 197 colour transparencies, 25 colour prints, 50 colour negatives, 4 black and white transparencies, 2 black and white glass slides and 50 black and white prints. As well, there are 18 architectural plans, blueprints, site plans and flow charts. Also included are four 16mm colour motion picture films. The majority of the textual material dates from 1944-1999 and includes monthly operational reports and reports from the President, underground operations, diamond drilling and treatment plant for Giant Yellowknife Mines Ltd. There are also meeting minutes, by-laws and constitution for the Giant Recreation Association and 10 Year Club, as well as menus and dinner invitations from 10 year club celebrations. In addition, there are copies of the Giant Mine newsletter Baker Creek News and photocopies of 34 annual reports for Giant Yellowknife Gold Mines, Ltd. and one original annual report from 1947. The remaining textual material includes correspondence and monthly operational reports for the Salmita Mine, Taurcanis (Bulldog) Mine and Tundra Gold Mine. The architectural plans show buildings and mine site layout for Taurcanis Mine. There are also blueprints, site plans and milling flow sheets from Giant Mine. The photographs date from the 1950s to 1991 and include aerial views of Giant Mine, headframe buildings, tailings retreatment plant, tailings ponds, employees at work both above and underground, pouring of the 10,000 gold brick and safety awards. In addition, there are photographs of the Akaitcho Mine, Salmita Mine, Tundra Mine and Crestaurum Mine. There are also several black and white prints that were taken by George Hunter in the 1950s documenting activities at Giant Mine. The four colour 16mm motion picture films record mining, exploration and construction activities. Included is a film documenting construction at Giant Mine in 1946/47, a promotional film titled "Giant Mines Story 1954" which describes the mining and smelting process at Giant and life in Yellowknife, and two films documenting mining exploration camps.

This fonds consists of 45 DAT audio cassettes, 125 audio cassettes, approximately 7.7 meters of textual material and approximately 1000 photographs.

These records, in the form of textual material, sound recordings and photographs have been divided into eight series: 1) Oral History Interview Transcripts; 2) Audio Recordings which consist of 45 DAT audio cassettes (archival masters) and 124 audio cassettes (original masters) of oral histories, and 1 audio cassette (original master) of Michif language excerpts from the 1994 Michif Language Conference; 3) Archives Photocopies; 4) Subject Files; 5) Family Files; 6) Administrative Files; 7) Photographs; 8) Miscellaneous.

The archives photocopies from Series 3) consist of copies of archival documents such as petitions, treaties, government reports, significant government correspondence, and copies of extracts from books and articles. Photocopies of some of these were placed in subject files (Series 4) and family files (Series 5). These files contain information relevant to certain subjects (i.e. education, communities, Hudson's Bay Company) or families.

The administrative files in series 6 concern the administration of the Metis History Project from 1972 to 1979. As well, eight boxes of primarily administrative textual materials were donated when the Metis Nation ceased operations in 2001.

The materials in series 8 (Miscellaneous) consist of drafts of the Metis History book, index material for this collection and information on how to use this collection. Other textual material includes transcripts of interviews conducted by representatives of the Metis Heritage Association in 1992. Elders interviewed include Beatrice Daniels, Sam Norn, Albert Lafferty, Rene Mercredi, Joseph Masuzumi, Frank Laviolette, Dora Tourangeau, Len Heron, Helena Mandeville and Mable Heron. Also included within this series is the transcript of the Michif Language Conference, held on February 19-20, 1994.

The series consists of records relating to the governance of the Metis Heritage Association. The records include a 1976 Certificate of Incorporation for the Metis Historical Society, Board meeting minutes and packages (1989-1999), Annual General Assembly minutes and packages (1991-1999), reports, financial statements, various versions of the Constitution and Bylaws. The files have been arranged by the Archivist in primarily chronological order.

The series consists of records relating to the administration of the Metis Heritage Association. The records include correspondence, agreements and contracts, budgets, funding proposals, Financial Statements and other financial records, briefing notes, reports, organizational charts, newsletter stories, activity reports, and historical information about Metis people and organizations in the Northwest Territories. The series has been arranged topically by the Archivist.

The series consists of records relating to projects undertaken by the Metis Heritage Association and heritage projects undertaken by the Metis Association prior to the establishment of the Metis Heritage Association in 1988. The records include funding proposals and financial records, briefing notes, work plans, correspondence, contracts and agreements, workshop materials, oral histories and transcripts, gathered historical information and photographs, family trees, book drafts and final versions, historic site database entries and photographs, and project reports. The records were assembled from several accessions and have been arranged by the Archivist by project.

The sub-series consists of records relating to the first Metis Heritage Project undertaken by the Metis Association during the 1970s. The project included gathering records and photographs from various sources, including individuals and archives, which documented the history of the Metis people in the Northwest Territories. The records include copies of textual records from other institutions and publications, copies of photographs of Metis life from other institutions and family albums, original photographs of Metis Association events, genealogies, research notes, and finding aids. The copied textual records include correspondence, government records, annual reports, journal excerpts from missions and fur trade posts, notes from treaty parties and half-breed scrip commissions, journals and memoirs of private individuals, newspaper and magazine clippings, and excerpts from books.

The files have been maintained in their original order and several distinct groups of records are apparent: copies of textual records, topical reference files, family reference files, research material, catalogues and finding aids, and copies of photographs.

The sub-series consists of records relating to several oral history projects conducted by the Metis Association and the Metis Heritage Association, as well as some tapes and transcripts collected from other sources. The records include administrative records such as correspondence, project proposals, financial records, reports, and lists of people to interview, as well as the products of the oral history projects, notes and summaries, transcripts, and tapes.

The sub-series consists of records relating to the proposed publication of a second volume of "Our Metis Heritage", which was intended to be a written history of Metis people in the Northwest Territories. The records include pamphlets, correspondence, donation records, and a draft version of the book.
