The records date from 1991-1996 and relate to the negotiation, management and evaluation of the Economic Development Agreement (EDA), in particular the mining or mineral portion of the agreement. There are also records pertaining to the EDA from the Policy Committee, Management Committee, Minerals Management Committee, Audit and Evaluation Committee, Communications Management Committee, Coordinating Committee, Programme Evaluation Management Committee and Information Committee. In addition, there is a Guide to Legislation that was developed by the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC).

The records date from 1983-1991 and consist of Ministerial Briefing Books related to a variety of subjects such as the Northern Accord, Energy Committee Meetings, and Mining Conferences. There are also records related to the Northern Oil and Gas Action Program (NOGAP) including project proposals, progress reports, and evaluations.

Records are from several divisions. Records from the Directorate relate to senior management meetings, strategic planning documents, inter-departmental meetings relating to land use planning. Records from the Energy, Policy and Economic Analysis division relate to the GNWT's planning for potential petroleum resource shortages, including negotiations with the federal government; as well as records related to energy conservation efforts of the GNWT which include education and public awareness campaigns to promote energy conservation in the NWT. Records from the Regional Planning Division relate to sustainable development planning including copies of the GNWT's Sustainable Development Action Plan and the Commissioner's Land Review Committee (CLRC) related to mining developments in the NWT, Development Impact Zone Committees related to potential resource/mineral development within different regions of the NWT and Land Claim Development such as the Dene-Metis Land Claim. Finally, records from the Mineral Development division relate to Acts and policies impacting mineral development, the Economic Development Agreement (EDA) and its subsidiary agreement, the Mineral Development Agreement (MDA) with the federal government, the Resource Development Committee, the Mineral Management Committee and various research projects.

Records relate to intergovernmental groups involved in mineral development policies, regional development of mineral exploration and mining activities including files from the Development Impact Zone Committees (DIZ's), files related to the Lone Gull Project (Kiggauik), as well files related to the EDA (Economic Development Agreement) and the subsidiary Mineral Development Agreement.

Records date from 1966-1984 and include project files that relate to the Norman Wells pipeline project, Beaufort Sea Environmental Assessment, Borealis Exploration (Roche Bay Magnetite Project) and Baffinland iron project at Mary River. The files include correspondence, community response and input on various projects, reports from the Beaufort Sea Environmental Assessment Panel, a copy of the discussion draft, Initial Environmental Evaluation for the Borealis Exploration Ltd and appendices, as well as a copy of the feasibility study for the Borealis Roche Bay Magnetite Project.

The records consist of promotional material related to the promotion of sustainable opportunities in the energy, mines and petroleum resource industry and supporting industry. This accession contains the regional promotional material and an overarching vision statement from Minister Brendan Bell.

This accession consists of a Ministerial briefing book on the topic of diamonds and diamond production in the Northwest Territories. The book has sections on the Diamond Industry Policy Framework, Global Diamond Industry, NWT Diamond Mines (Existing), NWT Diamond Mines (Future), Rough Diamond Supply Agreements, NWT Manufacturing, GNWT Agreements with Manufacturers, Trademarks/Branding, National Issues, International Issues, Potential Initiatives, Diamond Facts Publication, and Diamond Articles.

The accession consists of records from the Minerals and Petroleum Resources Division of the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (previously they Minerals Division of the Department of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources and the Minerals, Oil and Gas Division of the Department of Resources, Wildlife, and Economic Development). The records include agreements with TransCanada Pipelines, the Government of Alberta, and the federal government. The records also include meeting materials for the Deputy Ministers' Pipeline Steering Committee, Managing This Land, the Mackenzie Gas Advisory Group, Deputy Ministers' Economic and Employment Development Committee, Diamond Review Committee, and the NWT Geoscience Office Joint Advisory Committee. The photographs were taken in the summer of 1947 and depict a Fox Moth airplane (CF-BNI) moored on the mine property, where Byrne was working as a consultant mining engineer. There are also photographs of Norman W. Byrne, his wife Rose, and his son Donald.
