This series documents the first four decades of J.I. Glick's life, before he and Sadie Glick moved to Yellowknife. Records relate to his involvement in the mining and fur trade in Ontario, his trials and incarceration, correspondence, World War II service records, return to civilian life and preparation to move to Yellowknife.

Between 1905 and 1921, the only legislation for the Northwest Territories (except for two Federal Acts) was by Order in Council. After 1921 minor matters (appointments of officials and their sala­ries, changes in regulations, etc,) were still decided by Order in Council. This series consists of chronological and alphabetical indices of Orders from 1870-1932, a chronological list of Dominion Acts relating to the NWT from 1869-1927, and copies of the Orders in Council from 1905-1932.

The series consists of an incomplete collected Ordinances of the Northwest Territories from 1905 to 1951. There is a small booklet for those passed 1905-1932, two folders of ordinances arranged alphabetically by subject, and two indices covering the years 1898-1904 and 1905-1949. Copies of many of the Ordinances are also included with the signed minutes in Series 1-3.

The files in this series contain the papers kept by the Secretary for each session. Although this practice continued until 1951, all of the files between 1929 and 1949 were probably destroyed before 1967. Although the files consist largely of copies which can also be found in the signed minutes (series 01), they also contain some additional information.

The records within this series are several parallel sets of minutes, agendas, meeting calls, and attachments sent to and kept by various members of the Council, including Commissioner W.W. Cory, Deputy Commissioner R.A. Gibson, O.S. Finnie, Commissioner H.H. Rowatt, J.L. Turner (Acting Chairman of the Dominion Lands Board), and Dr. Charles Camsell (Deputy Minister of the Department of Mines). Charles Camsell's records also include records of the Advisory Board on Mining Regulations (1922-1936). These sets of minutes frequently overlap in time with one another and contain many of the same attachments, although some of the attachments are different than those found in the signed minutes (Series 1).

The series consists of signed minutes of the Council of the Northwest Territories during the period of appointed Council members. The minutes of the first five sessions are not signed, but they are clearly intended of to the be the official proceedings of the Council, and the signed versions can be found in Series 3. Regular and special sessions are numbered from 1921-1950.

A large number of attachments have been included with the minutes, but this has not been done consistently. These attachments include agendas, copies of correspondence, reports, some Ordinances (including some drafts), and minutes of related committees, including the Interdepartmental Reindeer Committee, Yellowknife Board of Trustees, and Hay River Board of Trustees. Some maps and photographs are also included.

This series includes souvenirs from domestic and international travel, including trips from Yellowknife Radio sponsored travel, by Harold and Zelda Glick and their children. It includes ephemera, programs and booklets from local events such as Caribou Carnival, pamphlets and booklets relating to Yellowknife, and travel records (tickets, programs, postcards).

This series documents the public schooling experience of Harold and Zelda Glick's children (Murray, Jeffrey, Marilyn, and Leah) in Yellowknife, and includes report cards, school yearbooks and newsletters, programs for musical and theatrical performances, as well as correspondence from schools to parents

Records consist predominantly of correspondence received by Harold and Zelda Glick from family and friends around the world. Also includes ephemera (festival programs and event flyers), a few newsclippings about the family, audio recordings ("cassette letters") made by family in Montreal for family members in Yellowknife, and an interview of Harold Glick conducted by his grandson Jeremy Glick.

Records consist of documentation of Harold Glick's mining interests and investments, including companies that operated within the Northwest Territories, and companies for which he was a director.

Series contains the records of Lizel Holdings, a holdings company, and Yellowknife Tog Shop Ltd., including documentation of the construction of a department store building at 50th Avenue and 50th Street in Yellowknife (5002-5006 Franklin Avenue). This building opened in 1968 and housed the new Yellowknife Radio store as well as The Tog Shop clothing store. Both J.I. Glick and Harold Glick were Directors of Lizel Holdings, while Harold Glick, Zelda Glick and Elizabeth Maybroda were the Directors of the Tog Shop Ltd., which was incorporated in 1966. J.I. Glick was the mortgagee for the Tog Shop Ltd.

Series also includes some records relating to the design of La Gondola restaurant.

Financial records and correspondence regarding Williams Electronics, an electronics repair business run by Merlyn Williams that was also a business interest of Harold Glick. The store operated out of the original Yellowknife Radio building in downtown Yellowknife.

Records include Harold Glick's individual correspondence on personal and business matters, including Yellowknife real estate.

Series consists of records relating to the operation of Yellowknife Radio Limited (also known as Yellowknife Radio and Records Shop and YK Radio). Records include financial statements, meeting minutes, and advertisements, as well as recordings of local bands that were made in the store.

YK Radio was a retail establishment for records, radios and appliances in downtown Yellowknife. Harold Glick began the business in October 1948, selling products and offering repair services. The store was initially in a wall tent next door to the Gold Range Hotel, and by 1952 had moved into a new building. In 1958 an addition was added to the shop. The store’s offerings expanded to include jewelry and furniture. As of 1968-1970, the company had three directors: Harold Glick (President), Zelda Glick (Secretary-Treasurer), and Jacob Isaac Glick (Vice President). By 1972, Derek A. Finall had replaced J.I. Glick as a Director. In 1986 the business was sold to Roy Williams.

Records include J.I. Glick's personal correspondence, political correspondence and ephemera, and passports. Also included are recordings of radio programs on topics of interest to Glick, namely Northern issues and the Progressive Conservative party.

Series contains financial records and correspondence regarding Premier Electrical (Yellowknife) Ltd., a company offering electrical repairs and installations. In 1969 J.I. Glick became a director of the company, which had been incorporated in 1967 and was in operation through the 1970s.

This series contains records arising from J.I. Glick's involvement with local governance in Yellowknife, both as a resident and as a member of the Yellowknife Ratepayers Association and the Town Council. Records include reports submitted to Yellowknife Town Council Meetings (meetings of the Yellowknife Ratepayers Association), meeting minutes, meeting recordings, speaking notes, and correspondence between J.I. Glick and Plains Western Gas and Electric company. The records document a dispute between the Gold Range Hotel Ltd. and Plains Western Gas and Electric Company regarding rates, which Glick brought before the courts and before the Town Council. The records also document a second dispute between J.I. Glick and the Town Council regarding property acquisition through tax sales, including the lots for the Gold Range Hotel.

The series documents J.I. Glick's Yellowknife real estate business, Central Real Estate, as well as the Gold Range Hotel, which was an asset of Central Real Estate. The property records include records predating formal incorporation of Central Real Estate in 1953. Glick was the first manager of the Gold Range Hotel from 1958-1966, when he and his wife Sadie Glick sold their shares.

The series documents J.I. Glick's finances, namely through tax returns and financial ledgers, for his various business and real estate interests in Yellowknife. The financial ledgers include both personal and business accounts, and the tax returns include balance sheets for Central Real Estate and the Gold Range Hotel.

The series documents J.I. Glick's first business venture in Yellowknife, the operations of the Veterans Restaurant (also known as the Veterans Cafe), which Glick operated ca. 1946-1953.
