The images show mining operations in the Yellowknife area including Con Mine, Giant Mine and Ptarmigan Mine; housing in Yellowknife; and construction of the Alberta Resources Railway line. They were taken by David Williamson during his time in Yellowknife and northern Alberta.
Williamson, David, b. 1907This accession consists of six black and white photographs taken by Jack Horan in Yellowknife and one illustrated oversize newspaper insert from the "Edmonton Bulletin" entitled "Yellowknife! World's Largest Potential Gold Field". The photographs show miners, and the Con Mine site.
Horan, Jack, b. 1908Two of the photographs are mounted on calendars from 1952. The single image (:0001) shows Con camp in July 1936. It shows three aircraft and several tents. One of the two calendars was distributed by Ted Cinnamon, Yellowknife agent for Imperial Oil Ltd and features a photograph (:0003) showing oil trucks, a tractor train, and oil tanks along the shore of Great Slave Lake - Latham Island. The second calendar features a picture (:0002) of a boat, possibly the Radium Yellowknife and was distributed by the Lakeview Coffee Shop.
This accession consists of 110 photographs documenting the construction of Yellowknife buildings and services in the late 1940s, and a visit from Governor General Viscount Alexander in 1946, attributed to Frank J.G. Cunningham. Also within this accession is a poster, dinner menu and a letter written by miner Daniel L. Davis.

This accession consists of 24 black and white copy negatives depicting mining activities in the western sub-arctic. Included are photographs taken at Eldorado and Port Radium in 1935. Some of the photographs have been identified using Mr. Peet's book.
Peet, Fred, 1908-The video is entitled "Pine Point Memories" and was produced by T.A. Shutsa in 1988. Although most of the video footage was shot by Mr. Shutsa, the opening 8 minutes consists of a reproduction of a video produced by Cominco which details the development of the mine at Pine Point. Cominco sold copies of this video to the residents of Pine Point in 1987. The footage taken by T.A. Shutsa documents the community of Pine Point in the final months before the mine was closed and the townsite abandoned. There are interviews with many of the towns' residents at their work sites. Footage includes the interior of such community facilities as the arena, the I.G.A. grocery store, the hardware store, and Galena Heights School. It also depicts the exterior of many of the buildings in Pine Point. The video also shows some of the buildings being destroyed. Also depicted is the last wedding and the last high school graduation ceremony held in the community. Included in this accession is a hand-written manuscript authored by Ted Shutsa in which he identifies many of the people and events depicted on the video.
Shutsa, Ted A.This accession consists of five diaries for the years 1932 to 1936 at the Eldorado Gold Mines Ltd. Labine Point, Great Bear Lake, NWT. The period of 1932 and 1933 resembles a ledger recording daily operations, personnel and duties. From 1934 to 1936 the nature of the diary changes and no longer records the personnel, duties, etc. and begins to record accounts of life at the mine, visitors, sicknesses and includes reports of accidents such as drownings and disappearances.
Lahti, Arne, b. 1917The photographs show various people and activities in and around Yellowknife including mining operations, aircraft, boats arriving and departing, hunting and fishing trips. The blueprint sketches show two different views of the Con Mine buildings.
Pilkington, George, 1914-This accession consists of materials collected by John Parker and includes: one photograph taken in 1964 by Reimann Studios with the caption "A group of Edmonton's Quarter Century Club at a testimonial dinner held at the Elks Hall, Yellowknife, NWT"; one time book and three daily journals from Bear Exploration and Radium Ltd. Operations at Contact Lake for the years 1936-1938. The journals contain information on the weather and activites at the mine. The journals for the years 1936 and 1937 contain daily activity reports on individual workers at the mine. The time book documents the hours logged by the workers and the pay rates for the years 1936-1939.

It is 64 pages in length and was compiled by Kevin O'Reilly and submitted to the spring stamp show in Edmonton, 1989. The exhibit contains covers and postcards from 1898 to 1985, relating to mining in the Northwest Territories. Text accompanies each item.
