This fonds consists 4.7 m of text, approximately 1972 photographs, 44 maps, 17 architectural drawings, and 6 audio cassettes relating to Robert R. (Bob) Janes' work in the Northwest Territories as an archaeologist, first Director of the Territorial Central Museum (later the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre or PWNHC), and Executive Director of the Science Institute of the Northwest Territories (SINT). The textual records include archaeological field notes and reports, papers and articles written and collected by Janes, reviews, correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, PWNHC building planning and operation files, newsletters, newspaper clippings, EXPO’86 planning files, and PWNHC and SINT publications. The photographs, maps, and architectural plans document archaeological work at Fort Alexander, Willow Lake, and Dealy Island, the construction, opening, and early operations of the PWNHC, the unveiling of the Sir John Ross plaque in Taloyoak (Spence Bay), and the research station at Iglulik (Igloolik). One plan shows preparations for the Northwest Territories pavilion at EXPO’86. The sound recordings include interviews and a recording of a church service for Janes’ ethnoarchaeological project at Willow Lake.
Janes, Robert R.This fonds consists of 353 black and white and colour photographs in slide, print and negative formats, 31 audio reels, 41 sound CDs, 42 audiocassettes, 24 DAT audiocassettes, approximately 1.62 m of textual material, 3 plans, 10 posters and 2 videocassettes.
The photographs primarily document exhibits and events at the museum. The sound recordings were generated by the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. The recordings consist of oral histories, lecture series, Dene drum music, conferences and assemblies, interviews with elders and people who lived in the North, and Christmas stories. The textual material includes records generated by the the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre and the Legal Division. Textual materials include administrative files, a discussion paper and associated records on Community Museums Policy, exhibit storyline and exhibit content plans, reports, transcripts of oral history interviews, and files related to Status of Women and Gun Control. The three plans were generated by a project about Willow Flats that was conducted by the Archaeology section. The 10 posters were produced by the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre and advertised public lectures and exhibits. The 2 videocassettes are in Umatic or Betacam formats and consist of master copies of "Trapline Lifeline" and "Wings of Change."
The fonds also includes files from the Legal division, including records from departmental committees and correspondence relating to advice on the development of legislation and the coordination of territorial legislation with community by-laws.

Northwest Territories. Department of Justice and Public Services (1979-1985)This fonds consists of 50.3 cm of textual records, 31 black and white photographs and negatives, 3 maps, and 1 architectural drawing. The textual material includes correspondence, minutes, annual reports, reports on the Territorial Museum, project files, archaeological site regulations, and files on toponymic activities. Included among the correspondence files are the records of the Chairman of the Board, Alexander Stevenson, and of the Permanent Secretary of the Board. The photographs consist of 3 photographs possibly intended to be used in a pamphlet, 16 black and white negatives of Dene women and Inuit camps, 2 prints and 1 duplicate negative of Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Sergeant Cook in Hay River and an image of Matt Berry, Val Patriarche, Jim Hall, and Ken Murray at Fort Rae in 1930. The images were collected by the NWT Historical Advisory Board as part of its mandate to acquire historical materials on behalf of the Government of the Northwest Territories. In addition, there are 9 photographs of Albert Faille's cabin, scow and warehouse at Fort Simpson. The pictures were taken on September 20, 1974 by Henry G. Cook for the Historical Advisory Board, as part of an inventory of Faille's effects. The architectural drawing shows the design for plaquing monuments and the three maps show areas of archaeological interest along the proposed Mackenzie Highway.
Northwest Territories. Northwest Territories Historical Advisory Board (1969-1975)This fonds consists of photographs and text from the Archaeological and Geological Reconnaissance expedition that surveyed archaeological sites in Alberta, the Mackenzie Valley and the Upper Yukon, as well as the expedition journals and notes of Wesley Bliss, Joseph Maloney, Douglas Osborne, Thomas Cain, and [Alden?] Hayes. The photographs include images of archaeological sites and the communities of Fort Good Hope, Shingle Point (Yukon) and Aklavik.
Archaeological and Geological Reconnaissance of Alberta, Mackenzie Valley, and the Upper YukonThis fonds consists of textual, graphic and cartographic materials produced durning Noble's numerous archeological expeditions in the NWT, and includes extensive field notes, original archeology reports, extensive cataloguing and analysis of artifacts found at sites, academic research and academic reports. This fonds also contains two binders of b&w photographs of the construction of Pine Point taken by Jim Cameron in 1929. Additionally, four binders in this fonds contain first flight air covers collected by Noble dating from 1929 - 1991.
