The files were part of the Central Registry System (80 Block, 81 Block, 82 Block and 85 Block) and cover a variety of topics, including directives and policies, arrangements for Council sessions, travel for Council members, Territorial Legislation Policy, elections, monthly reports from the regions, staff meetings and ordinances.

Please note that an Inuit camp is referred to as an Eskimo camp in these records.

These records were created by Walter Slipchenko during his time as Chief of DIAND's Circumpolar Affairs Division, Director of Circumpolar Affairs with the GNWT, and as a consultant on circumpolar affairs, from 1977 to 1994. The records consist primarily of reports on GNWT engagement with circumpolar affairs, particularly with exchanges to the USSR and joint projects. Copies of the various cooperation agreements and photographs of some exchanges are also included.

The textual records consist of 3 files. The first file is of correspondence of the Eldorado Mining and Refining Company, Eldorado Gold Mines Ltd. and El Bonanza Mining Corp. Ltd. related to administrative matters (1934-1944). Includes some correspondence of Gilbert and Charles Labine. The second file contains the ballot of 12 candidates for the Aklavik Advisory Council (1969). The third file has part of a diary in Inuktitut (1955), 2 permits to enter the Reindeer Reserve, and 7 photographs in very bad condition which may have come from the collection of the National Archives of Canada.

The textual records consist of two items from the records of the Yellowknife Daycare Association.

This accession consists of an annotated copy of the "Summary of Report of the Advisory Commission on the Development of Government in the Northwest Territories" (Carrothers Commission 1966) and a complete sequence of Tuesday Letters (8 Dec. 1964 to 16 Jan. 1967), which were informal newsletters from Mr. Sivertz to the members of the NWT Council.

This accession consists of a document related to an educational program on government and elections. The document, entitled "Position of the Legislative Assembly on Constitutional Development in the Northwest Territories" contains twelve lessons explaining the processes of government and the procedure of elections. It was designed to be used as part of a larger program by community educators on "Government and Elections" prior to the 1975 Territorial election.

This accession consists of textual records relating to "Al" Stephens electoral campaign as the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) candidate for the Yukon-Mackenzie District in the 1949 federal election. Documents include statements of expenditures by Stephens during the campaign and a receipt for the $200 deposit paid by him to be acclaimed as an official candidate. There is also a letter from P. Butterfield, a CCF organiser in the Yukon, which discusses how the campaign on behalf of the CCF went in the Yukon. The letter also discusses Stephens expense claims and Butterfield's decision to alter them.

The videos consist of the production "History in the Making: The NWT Legislative Assembly." Each videocassette contains the production in a different language including: English (:0001), Tłı̨chǫ (Dogrib :0002), Dëne Sųłıné (Chipewyan :0003), Dene Zhatıé (South Slavey :0004), French (:0005), Dene Kǝdǝ́ (North Slavey :0006) and Inuktitut (:0007). The program, which is approximately 10 minutes in length, was produced by Inuit Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) in 1990. The production was commissioned by the Management and Services Board of the 11th Legislative Assembly, and traces the political development in the NWT, including the development of the NWT Council and the Legislative Assembly. The production incorporates archival photographs and moving images from the Northwest Territories, as well as footage of Legislative Assembly sessions from the 1980s. Fran Hurcomb wrote the script for the production, and archival material was provided by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Northern Service, Canadian Museum of Civilization, Crawley Films, Library Archives Canada and the NWT Archives. This accession, collected by Commissioner Stuart M. Hodgson, consists of a variety of unrelated material. Included in the collection is the transcript of an interview between [Clarence?] Johnson and [Des?] Fogg. The subject of the interview is Mr. Johnson's work aboard the ships "Emma" and "Nigalik". Also included in the collection are 5 unrelated photographs. The photographs include images of: Herbert Charles Wilson, speaker of the NWT Legislative Assembly from 1883-1888, Gordon Robertson, Game Wardens at Fort Smith, the unveiling of a plaque at the Northern United Place in Yellowknife and the NWT Council.

Records date from 1888-1991 and consist of published reports, pamphlets, brochures and bound ordinances. The pamphlets and brochures relate to the Legislative Assembly's operations, symbology, projects, interest in a pipeline and talks of forming a new territory (Nunavut). Records also include the rules of the preceding body, the Council of the Northwest Territories, as well as the rules of the Assembly from 1984 to 1991. There are published reports on priorities for the North, election reports, electoral boundaries, administrative structure for Nunavut, a spousal assault task force report, and a Denedeh government proposal for restructuring of the Government of the Northwest Territories.
Also included in this accession are ordinances dated 1888 and 1895 and bound ordinances dating 1950 through 1981. There is also a book of statutes from 1985.
